Faculty Grants for Undergraduate Research
Individual faculty members may receive funds to involve undergraduates in their research or current scholarly projects. The program aims to provide a bridge for students between introductory coursework and advanced independent study. Faculty grants provide student stipends; travel expenses are eligible for limited support.
There will be two proposal submission deadlines for the 2008-2009 Academic Year:
* October 29th, 2008 (for funding available in the Winter, Spring, and Summer)
* January 21st, 2009 (for funding available in the Spring and Summer)

Student Evaluations
As part of our effort to improve student research experiences, we ask that students take the following survey. Previous VPUE Faculty Grant recipients should urge their students to take this survey as soon as possible after project compeletion. Reviewers examine these evaluations closely when making funding decisions.

Research Opportunities Listing Service
Faculty should consider using the Research Opportunities Listing service to recruit students for positions funded through a faculty grant.
Departmental Grants for Undergraduate Research
The Departmental Grants programs expand opportunities for undergraduates to work with faculty on research and scholarship. The programs match students with faculty mentors and provide them with stipends for full-time summer work and / or wages for part-time research during the academic year. Chairs or undergraduate studies directors, interdisciplinary programs and research centers may sponsor programs. Research institutes and centers are also eligible to participate. Grants typically range from $10,000 to 120,000 depending on the number of students and the length of the research program.
Student Grants
The Student Grants Program offers funding directly to students who write their own research or creative arts proposals and who have a faculty sponsor.

Introductory Research Seminars
Stanford Introductory Seminars integrate explorations into current questions in a field with training in critical inquiry skills. Research-based seminars focus on a research question that the student participants explore over the quarter with training in relevant methodologies. Each offers students the opportunity to continue research projects relating to the topic after the end of the quarter.
With support for faculty-undergraduate research collaborations through faculty grants, seminars provide an ideal forum to connect with students who might become partners in future projects.
